Mock Cable IPod or Mobile (Cell Phone) Case

The pictures show this pattern knitted in New Lanark DK Denim wool and natural, undyed Ecru wool.  There are many other colours available.

Dimensions: Finished case measures 13cm by 6.5cm (externally), the pouch is 12cm by 6cm (internally), but will stretch to take a slightly wider phone.

Materials:  
50g ball New Lanark DK wool
A pair of 4mm knitting needles (US size 6, old UK size 8)
Tapestry needle
2cm button

Tension: 10 sts and 12 rows gives a 4cm square in mock cable pattern, using specified yarn and needles.  Check tension and adjust needle size if necessary.

Abbreviations: 
CO – cast on
sts – stitches
K – knit
P – purl
R.H.S. – right hand side
L.H.S. – left hand side
RS – right side
WS – wrong side
P2tog – purl 2 together
sl 1 – slip 1
psso – pass slipped stitch over
YO – yarn over
BO – bind (cast) off

Instructions:
Buttonhole:
CO 12 sts
Row 1: P
Row 2: K3, pass 3rd st back onto L.H. needle.  Pass next 8 sts 
            over 3rd st. Wrap yarn twice round needle then knit 3rd st 
            again.  K final st.
Row 3: P2tog, drop one YO loop from previous row, (K1, P1, K1, P1, 
            K1) in remaining YO loop, P2tog. (7sts)
Row 4: Pick up and K 3 sts from R.H.S. of work, K across row, pick up
            and K 3 sts from L.H.S. of work. (13sts)
Row 5: (K1, P1) into 1st st, (K1, P1) into 2nd st, P9, 
            (P1, K1) into second to last st, (P1, K1) 
            into last st. (17sts)

Case:        
Row 1: (P2, K3) across to last 2 sts, P2.
Row 2: (K2, P3) across to last 2 sts, K2.
Row 3: * P2, sl 1, K2, psso*, repeat from * to * to last 2 sts, P2.
Row 4: * K2, P1. YO, P1*, repeat from * to * to last 2 sts, K2

These 4 rows form the mock cable pattern.

Repeat the pattern until the work measures 31cm in total (including the button hole), ending with row 3.  BO loosely in K2, P2 rib.

Fold BO edge of case up to form pouch, WS together, leaving 6cm (including buttonhole) at the top to form a flap to close.  Sew sides using tiny running stitches on the RS.  Attach button 1cm from BO edge. Weave in ends.
